Razorpay payment gateway integration for food delivery app
01. Introduction
In the fast-growing food delivery industry, digital payments play a vital role in ensuring a smooth and trustworthy customer experience. Our food delivery app initially relied on a basic Razorpay integration for processing online transactions. However, the setup often led to failed UPI payments, frustrating customers and creating manual workload for the operations team. To resolve this, we implemented an advanced Razorpay integration that streamlined payments into a seamless, one-click process.
02. The challenges
- Frequent UPI transaction failures: Customers were forced to switch between UPI apps and the delivery app, often leading to incomplete or failed transactions.
- Poor user experience: Payment deductions were happening, but the app sometimes displayed “Payment Failed,” resulting in confusion and loss of trust.
- Manual intervention required: Transactions that showed as incomplete had to be manually verified and captured through Razorpay’s admin panel, slowing down operations and delaying order processing.

To address these issues, we redesigned the payment flow with Razorpay’s advanced integration features:
- One-click UPI payment: Enabled seamless in-app UPI payments without switching to external apps.
- Automatic payment capture: Configured Razorpay to capture payments instantly, eliminating the need for manual reconciliation.
- Error handling optimization: Enhanced backend workflows to ensure that transaction status synced correctly between the app and Razorpay, preventing false “Payment Failed” messages.

- Improved payment success rate: Transaction success rates increased significantly, especially for UPI-based payments.
- Seamless customer experience: Customers could now complete payments in a single step without leaving the app.
- Reduced manual work: Automatic payment capture removed the burden of manual verification from the operations team.
- Stronger trust and retention: Customers reported fewer payment-related frustrations, leading to better app reviews and repeat orders.
